Things to Know Before a Paving Contractor Arrives at Your Home

Prepare Your Home for a Driveway Installation

A driveway installation is an extensive project. However, it is well worth it since it can add value to your property while creating a smoother surface for your vehicles to drive on. So, have you prepared your property for a driveway installation? Before the paving contractor arrives at your property, be sure you are prepared:

  • Know that your contractor will be working on weekends and holidays, even though it is not always mentioned in their contract. This can cause problems for them and you, especially if you have plans to work on your driveway during this time.
  • Know that you will likely need to turn off the water system of your house. Running water can definitely damage paving installations which are why most pavers would ask homeowners to turn them off, or at least don’t hose the driveway.
  • You can help pavers by making sure that their tools are all accounted for. Also, be sure that there are no pets or children around when pavers arrive to do the job. If you do have small children, they should stay away from the area where the contractor is working. A paving project can be dangerous so best tell them to be cautious.
  • Make sure that they are able to park close to your house. You can ask pavers if you can have an alternative way for you to park your vehicle in the garage. Or, should you just park a block away from your home.
  • Make sure that you know how long it will take your paving contractor to install the driveway. You should be able to set a timetable for their arrival and for the completion of the job. Alternatively, if you want them to start at a certain time or finish earlier than expected, then let them know in advance.
